Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions. While you cycle the tank is a great time to do that since it takes a little while. Get an api master test kit so you can test your own water, cycle your tank, and then research fish that will be a good match to your tank size. Some of us are lucky enough to have a good local fish store, but information they give you should always be double checked.ĭon't throw your tank away. Pet store employees are notorious for not knowing what they are talking about. It is always a good idea to research fish before you get them. you can read about this here and ask any questions in this post įrom your description it sounds to me like your fish have died from ammonia poisoning, possibly expedited by the addition of a shark. With out a working bio filter the fish will die from toxins such as ammonia and nitrites. You said you started the tank for two weeks? What exactly did you do? A tank needs to be cycled in order for fish to live in it. They grow rather large, and can be very aggressive. If so it is much to small for a rainbow shark. I see you said your tank is a 20G tank is this right? Should I keep fishes, I don’t like them die every 2 to 3 weeksįirst welcome to MAC, you have come to a great place for info, there are a lot of experienced fish keepers here. Introducing new fishes creates problem for the ones? What would have caused this? I am feeling very bad for those two fishes and even thing of returning the third one throw away the tank. When i woke up in the morning 2 red minors were dead. The next day one red minor looked ill and he was moving very slowly couldn’t keep his balance. I removed the stupid shark and returned him. Usually once the female is egg laden they are put into a breeding. They need exact water conditions and parameters to even lay eggs. It is actually quite difficult to get them to breed in a community tank as all the fish will eat the eggs before they can hatch. After an hour he was not allowing them near plants and rocks. Females have a heavier, thicker body than the males. As soon as I introduced him he started chasing red minors. I went to bigger marine imports or something and a rainbow shark caught my eyes i asked for the pet store guy and gave a description of my tank like 20G, when i stared etc and they advised I can get a rainbow shark. I went out to get 3 red minors but my local store was out of tetras. I took 3 of them and floated them for good 30 minutes and mixed the tank water in the plastic and after 20 minutes i left the fish in the tank. So told me take home red minor tetras as they are easy to keep fishes. Took the water sample to a local pet store where is tested and said everything looks good. I did my research started the tank without fish for two weeks. I'm really not good at this fish business.I am new bee fish keeper. if I have to get a quarantine tank, do I have to cycle it? or is it just a bowl with tank water in it? Will the fins grow back or is it pretty much done for?Ĥ. Should I have gotten the same type of fish instead of two different ones? Should I have gotten more?ģ. But it was still swimming around after I got it un-stuck or brought it back to life or whatever, but it looks like its missing its bottom fins, like the white finned was nipping at it or something, so now I have questions.Ģ. This morning, when I went to go feed them I found the red one again, stuck in a plant. I got him out of the plant and he swam around and seemed fine. So last night, I was just looking in the tank and couldn't find the red minor fish and I found it face down "stuck" in a plant. When I added them to the tank, the red one wouldn't eat, it would wait for little scraps to fall down then eat those but it was still very little. I added a red minor tetra and a white finned rosy tetra last Sunday, so a week ago. My water levels all fall into the "safe" category, but I'm using test strips because it was what I could afford at the time. I have 2 fake planets, a pineapple decoration, and gravel on the bottom.
